more elephants

Welcome to the weekend, can I come out of hiding now?

We’ve finally been to see the surgeon, in 2 months surgery for the Man’s obstructive sleep apnea *should* (emphasis on should, just in case the * s don’t jump enough) be complete by then. Anyone not familiar with Sleep Apnea, its a condition that takes its name from the Greek word apnea, which means “without breath.” People with sleep apnea actually stop breathing repeatedly during their sleep, sometimes longer than a minute, sometimes hundreds of times per night. This causes a person to wake up just enough to be kept from having REM sleep, which is of course necessary to survive. (anyone who’s gone 3 days without sleep, especially in University during exam time while studying, knows the head-trips that can follow lack of sleep ;) ). The specialist said that its been at least 3 years that the Man hasn’t had REM sleep due to the severity of this condition, but trust me since I’ve been his bed-partner for 7 years of the past 8, its been in the severe category since I’ve met him.

Lack of REM sleep for that length of time makes one a prime candidate for heart attack and stroke, and really screws with the brain and thought processes, perception and decision making.

And whomever the person with Sleep Apnea is sharing a bed with can’t sleep either, we’ve got 2 parents who aren’t getting enough sleep, and one cranky couple >.>

ANYWAY

A lot of things that should have come into the open when I moved back to the East Coast for the giving of second chances to fix his mistakes, and wow there are some doozies :( I think a stable budget will work, but I’m really not thrilled with the prospect of hunting for a job since it’ll mean at least $600 in daycare bills, plus babysitter bills for after dinner hours most likely. If I worked for under $10/hour FT, after those bills, I’d be ending up working for $200-$250.oo per month. Isn’t that gross? Minimum wage is $8/hour, and if I’m not one of the lucky ones to get a job in my field, I’ll be working for between $8 and $10/hour. Living wages is $9.25ish, SO not enough to pay rent and a babysitter :(

Good lord I can’t wait until I’m able to go back to school and finish my Accounting courses. Especially if I end up being a single parent again and paying daycare bills and rent on my own. Unfortuntely, its looking like a scary probability :(
